A PROFILE OF BERNADETTE CALHOUN
by
HENRY TRIONE

Bernadette Calhoun came to Cardinal Newman High School to teach mathmatics nearly three years ago from Justin Sienna High
School in Napa. Henry Trione photographed her and asked her some questions for our monthly profile series.

Q: How many years have you been teaching?
A: Nine years including teaching at Cardinal Newman.

Q: What is the most challenging aspect of being a math teacher?
A: Keeping people focused on things that do not immediately
,,,,,apply to their life.

Q: What do you like the most about your job?
A: Just about everything. I enjoy working with teenagers,
.....contributing to the education and lives of my students and building
.....relationships.

Q: Is there any event that stands out in your memory that occurred
,,,,,in your math class.
A: Often there will be a witty group in my class. I love the wit of
'''''my students.

Q: Are there any changes or additions you would like to see at
'''''Cardinal Newman in the future?
A: Air conditioning! I would also love to see more people attend
.....Cardinal Newman unrestricted by funding.

Q: What changes in technology do you see in the future?
A: For education, I think students won’t have to carry textbooks around
.....anymore when they use a type of tablet. There will probably be more
.....online classes that are better tailored to teach each student’s learning
.....capabilities.
