My project has kept up with the Cardinal Newman Mission Statement. I am so happy that the kids are starting to open up to me and get excited when we come to art class. It is really satisfying to see their smiles when we walk in the room. My CBSL project has taught me to be a leader while making a difference in the kid’s lives. I have been able to combine my passion for art with service and it is a pleasure to go to my site. I have not grown tired of the work I am doing, and that is a relief.

My service has opened up perspective on the issue of art education. I have always believed that art education should be more prevalent in the school system, but working at my site has furthered my passion on this issue. There is a need for expression for kids growing up; it develops hobbies and interests. It has the potential to keep them out of trouble in their futures. By finding ways to express themselves artistically, it can steer them away from more harmful ways of expression. This is the issue I hope to fix. I know I cannot fix it entirely by working with kindergartners, but I hope that by teaching them when they are young that the lessons it will stay with them as them grow up.
