Katniss (Lawrence) is now a well-known hero in the nation she lives in after winning a bloodbath of a gladiator fight called the “Hunger Games” alongside her district friend, Peeta (Hutcherson). The nation is a large oligarchy ruled by a tyrant, President Snow (Sutherland). President Snow increasingly despises the young girl and Peeta throughout the film because they are opposed to the annual “Hunger Games”. Katniss and Peeta are warned numerous times to not cross President Snow, but they continue to strive for the freedom of the nation’s children. Their lives begin to slowly descend, but when they volunteer for the upcoming “Hunger Games”, they find themselves in a perplexing situation.

Very few sagas ever have much of a story in the middle. Some can accomplish having a good middle installment like Star Wars (Empire Strikes Back), The Godfather (Part II), The Dark Knight (The Dark Knight) or even The Man With No Name (For a Few Dollars More). I must say that this film joins the sagas above with its wonderful capacity of entertainment and productivity. Jennifer Lawrence is perhaps one of the greatest actresses in the history of cinema. Donald Sutherland is an outstanding actor as well. Hollywood tends to go over the top with big budget films, which always bothers me, but this one seems to strike right where it aims. The first film in this series had very enriched acting, was well done, and accomplished the book’s main objectives. This film to me was more dominant. Instead of a large amount of action, it had a large amount of drama and even good dialogue. Not to say that these films have not followed the novels, but that this one to me was a little more intriguing. The film takes a standpoint on a serious matter of life. The serious standpoint is whatever the viewer wishes to associate the picture with. All I request is that you go see it and associate it with a subject that haunts you.
