UNCHARTED 3: DRAKE'S DECEPTION A REVIEW BY TYLER ANDERSON |
||
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is the type of game that should only be released one or maybe twice in a console generation. But, Developer, Naughty Dog, has been able to make three of these high octane, mystery, action adventure games. The amount of content and the quality of the content is top notch. The campaign just shows the amount of work put into this game and, in my opinion, is the best thing about the Uncharted series. Multiplayer is given an upgrade this time around and provides a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the campaign and multiplayer, there is a co-op mode, either local or online. You can grab some buddies and play together in either story driven missions or a survival mode. The Uncharted series has consistently amazing and compelling campaigns. This is applicable here and is easily the best in the series. In this installment, Nathan Drake’s past comes back to bite in the back. Nathan Drake and the villain race to find the famous “Atlantis of the Sands” and the race to get there is as compelling as ever. The villain is named Katherine Marlowe. She is a part of Drakes past that he doesn’t talk about. Something that this game does incredibly well is to be very unexpected. The past two have had several similarities that can be pulled from them. This one starts off with a very button twitching melee sequence that is entertaining and creates quite a foundation for the rest of the game. Every animation is smooth and everything works. The thing about Uncharted games is that when it starts it never slows down. Each environment is very fun to play in and unique that the gameplay never begins to get boring. This journey brings him all across the world to locations such as Syria, London, France and many more. Each location is so detailed and they never make you feel at anytime that they could have done a segment better. One of the finer moments is when a cruise ship and it is slowly sinking and you need to find your way out while glass is breaker and water is rushing at your back. These set pieces aren’t just good; they are amazing and moments like these make Uncharted what it is. Not even to mention the characters and character development found throughout Uncharted 3. The dynamic of Nathan Drake, Victor Sullivan, Elena Fischer, and Chloe Frazer is just so interesting and compelling that you feel like you know each and every person. Even the villains, Catherine Marlowe and Talbot are crazy and you want to find out their motives. The only part of this game that can be found as a fault in this game is the gameplay. This isn’t the greatest part of the game but by no means am I saying that it is bad but it is solid. There is no point by which you will get fed up with the gameplay but even though it is the same as the other two games it is incredibly fun. Every weapon that you use in the campaign is very fun to use. The gameplay mechanics in place them fun to use and never overpowered. The combination of story, characters, environments and gameplay make an amazing experience that is unmatched by 95% of modern games. Multiplayer has been given a huge overhaul and is improved and incredibly fun to play every time you pick it up. The multiplayer modes include team deathmatch, team objectives and many more that provide an enriching and rewarding experience. During each and every match, you receive rewards for certain things you do that are in addition to regular kills. These can be for thing like killing someone with a grenade while you are dead or sprint a certain distance in a match. Even if you do horrible in a match, you may receive these rewards that make you feel accomplished. Every match you enter, even if you don’t do well, you feel that you did something. Something else that is a great addition is perks. These perks aid you in each match going from things like finding the power weapons on each match and other things too. Each map is fun and even though some outshine others like the map Airstrip when your opponent and you are trying to take control of a moving cargo plane. They are more or less fair and balanced. You can use whatever weapon you want for any map. Weapons are a great improvement, also. There are 4 standard guns and many other power weapons you can find throughout each map. Multiplayer as a whole is an insanely improved version of Uncharted 2 and provides a very rewarding experience. Coop is another thing that just makes this game so good. Like Uncharted 2, you are able to do story based missions. These range from a few more added things to Uncharted 2’s story and extras to the Uncharted 3 story. These are fun because if you get a group of buddies together and, then play, this can be allot of fun. Though these missions are fun, Uncharted 3’s survival mode is the reason to play the Coop. Like Firefight in Halo and Horde in Gears of War, waves of enemies come at you. Every wave gets increasingly difficult and will test you and your partners. This is extremely fun and will help you level up online pretty quickly. There is quite a large amount of content that is very fun and worth your time. Verdict Uncharted 3 is one of the finest games in this generation and is the best the PS3 can offer. If you don’t have a PS3 and want a reason to get one, here is the reason. The cinematic and amazing campaign is just so good that very few other campaigns even come close to how good it is. The online multiplayer’s upgrade is great and really helps it become rewarding and fun to play. I will be playing online beyond the release of this game. The coop is also upgraded and survival mode is fun if you have a few buddies who have some extra time. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is a must buy and should be in every PS3 owner’s library. Presentation: The story is so good and there is so much content that is extremely amazing. Graphics: This game shows the power of the PS3 and it shines on the system and looks amazing. Sound: The voice acting and sound design is among the greatest of any game out now. Gameplay: Even though the gameplay is 9.0 sometimes wonky, it is very solid. Lasting Appeal: I will be playing this game way beyond the release date. Overall: 10.0 |
