FUN, FIT AND READY FOR FIRST GRADE
BY TREVOR DRAKE

In early September when I was still deciding on what to do for my CBSL project, Mr. Contreras gave me the phone number to a kindergarten teacher at Riebli Elementary School who was looking for some help in her class room. I called the teacher Mrs. Trager and she invited me to come and check out her class. After meeting her and her students I asked her if I could teach her students physical education. I have been playing games for P.E. with the children during our time together.

I feel I have made a great amount of progress since I started working at Riebli Elementary School. Since the other teachers have seen me playing games for P.E. with Mrs. Trager's class, they have followed and done the same with their classes. At first I could use the gym whenever I wanted for different games. Now there is an allotted time that we can play in the gym because the other three kindergarten classes have decided that they also want to teach their children different skills and games for P.E. Besides continuing to go every Friday morning to Riebli to teach P.E, I am also planning an end of the year party for the class.

The most challenging part of my project so far has been keeping the kids on task. They are easily distracted. I also had two students who were scared of playing, but I showed them how much fun it could be and they started to join the rest of the class. The most rewarding part of my project is when I step into the kindergarten gates and I can see the children smiling saying “Trevor is here!”
