BACK TO THE EIGHTIES THE TOTALLY AWESOME MUSICAL REVIEW BY STEPHANIE PIRES, PHOTOS BY DAN CURRAN |

Last Friday, I had the privilege of watching this year’s spring musical, “Back to the 80’s!” The drama students of Cardinal Newman and Ursuline High Schools worked very hard in the previous months to put together this show-stopping musical, and their hard work paid off! The musical was full of many memorable moments, including cast renditions of classic 80’s songs such as “Footloose” and “Material Girl.” The students gave a stellar performance that kept the theater roaring with laughter, while the crew made the transitions between scenes seamless. The cast poked fun at every aspect of 80’s pop culture much to the delight of their audience. I loved the loud and fun costumes that the cast wore, as well as the teased hair and fierce make-up that many of the girls (and boys) showcased. Personally, my favorite part of the play was when Fergal, the stereotypical high school geek, defended himself with his newfound karate skills at the end of the play! The school band did a great job of keeping the high energy up all night long with live music. “Back to the 80’s” was definitely a success and a production that many people will fondly remember for years to come! |
